1. Common Typographic Diseases

I created this set of layouts as an exercise in using the grid. This class assignment was suppose to teach us how to create unique and fun layouts based off a grid system. It was a precursor to some of the multi-page layouts we would soon be concentrating on. Such as the Penguin book and the AIGA- Make/Think booklet.

2. Penguin Books

My instructor at Portland State assigned this project to our class, each student was to pick either Penguin Books or Alvar Alto and individually create a book based on them. The size, shape, and all the designing was ours to create and develop. Although it was required we base the layout from a grid, the format of the grid being ours entirely to decipher.

Penguin Books (continued)

3. Make/Think, AIGA conference booklet

With this project we were asked to redesign the recent Make/Think, AIGA conference booklet. The booklet size and copy were provided for us, it was up to us to decide how we would create our grid and organize the content inside.

4. Aerodrome logo

Our class was given the assignment to make a logo for an imagined client. The "client" wanted a logo designed for their Art Deco period, aviation restaurant named the Aerodrome. I originally created the logo in 2006 at Otis Art and Design, since then I have edited it and created a menu under self direction.

5. Peruse Books Sale Posters

Our class was given the assignment to create a sale ad for an imagined retail store of our choosing. Being a typography class the instructor wanted us to use the letters of the word "sale" as art elements to create a dynamic design that both informed the viewer of a sale and created a design piece. The dimensions, colors and 3 sets were specified by the teacher, under my own direction I later edited the colors and designs.
